The FBJ's furthering of the divide
Do black people have a right to exclusivity?
- By Bennie Bunsee
You can spin it anyway you like, Bennie, and delve into intellectual arguments about "colonialism" and past "oppression by a minority", but 14 years into the democratic South Africa, such a blatantly racist policy as the FBJ's exclusion of white journalists is a direct assault on human rights and the constitution.
Such a policy has no place in modern society where the world at large is trying (often not succeeding though) to co-exist peacefully with those of all creeds, colours & political affiliations etc.
You liken "woman's only" clubs who exclude men (which have apparently become a norm) to the FBJ's exclusion of whites. I think that this is a poor comparison as presumably such groups would be open to ALL woman be they black, white or khaki. The exclusion of men would be a natural bi-product of a group of woman meeting together to discuss things affecting them, but I doubt that they would have some burly woman at the door ensuring that no men where allowed in...
I would like us as a society to stop driving these wedges between ourselves!
I would like us to stop seeing people as "a black woman", "a white teenager" or "an indian man".
It's time to realise that we are all on this earth together, and that despite our differences, we are all humans!
